What is intent-based leadership?
Intent-based leadership is an accessible practice for everyone. It pragmatically challenges the hierarchical "leader-followers" model in favour of a "leader-leader" organization and "team leadership". It is inspired in particular by: - The experience of David Marquet, former commander of an American nuclear submarine and author of "Turn The Ship Around!™" (learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rt9HDfYdPg) - Will Schutz's "Human Element" approach (learn more: http://elementhumain-france.fr/lapproche/) - Vincent Lenhardt's principles of integrative coaching (learn more: https://www.vincentlenhardt.com/). Intent-based leadership emphasises the empowerment and autonomy of team members. It proposes practical methods and tools based notably on language and behaviours. The leader, by refusing to give orders and clearly sharing their intention, vision and mission, creates an environment where team members are encouraged to make informed decisions and actively contribute to achieving common objectives. Intent-based leadership is built on trust, subsidiarity and shared responsibility. By adopting this approach, leaders can inspire and motivate their teams to excel, while fostering innovation, creativity and individual and collective growth. As such, intent-based leadership is also a culture: it develops its full power when fully integrated by the team or organization, that is, in values, processes, attitudes and behaviours.
